There is a pull string that turns the larger diameter reel via a ratchet sheave winding the line on in seconds meaning you can have the weight on the rail in a flash getting the boat settled and up to speed much faster. When the sheet or halyard is required it simply Un-Reel's off the drum eliminating the chance of knots and tangles.
