Looking to refine the setup of his Carkeek 40 Victoire, Dr Darryl Hodgkinson engaged the Marine Element team to replace the original tiller steering with a new twin wheel set up.
The work involved pulling the rig out, lifting the boat out of the water and dropping out the rudder and removing the keel so the boat could sit in a low cradle, the boat was then tented to allow the work to proceed regardless of weather.
The old tiller was removed and new pedestals and wheels installed and connected to existing rudder head mechanism. Foot chocks were added either side to provide the helmsman with stable footing when steering and new deck grip throughout the cockpit also gives the crew secure footing.
Finally, the boat was put back on the keel, rudder reinstalled, and boat relaunched ready for its rig.
